Special thanks to Dan of PlanetPLG for pointing this one out: not only do the owners of 205 Parkside Ave. intend to renovate into a flophouse, but the space will most likely also be a whorehouse.
Phew! We were worried it would only be a flophouse.
Seriously. Time to make calls to Yvette Clarke:
District Office Phone No.: (718) 287-8762. Tell her that plans to build an "apartment hotel" at 205 Parkside Ave. are unacceptable and MUST BE STOPPED.

Also, please feel free to call JED WEISS who is the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals Examiner on this case. His can be reached at 212.788.8500. Case Calendar # 249-04-BZ. This case is scheduled to be decided on July 18th.

What can Yvette Clark do to prevent this guy from developing his enterprize at 205 Parkside? What else can we do? Has any construction begun?

We assume that a City Council member could intervene with the granting of a variance...

I contacted Yvette's office - they have received some calls on this today and they are looking into it.
Keep in mind that the guy representing the owners before the Board of Standards and Appeals did not think the board would grant the variance. Hopefully this is DOA.

Re: the low likelihood of BSA granting the variance - we would say the same thing if we wanted someone off our back :)

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. We need to be just as agressive about this no matter how much the threat is downplayed.

Yes, I think we need to wage a real campaign here. Otherwise people are apt to have sex with each other! We must stop it NOW!!! We must stop the sex!!!!!

Dave - I think we all appreciate your attempt at humor. But this isn't about people having sex. It's about how quality of life is affected when a building like this enters the neighborhood. We're not living in Amsterdam or Las Vegas. Here prostitution is an underground economy which is linked to drug trafficking and all sorts of other crimes.

define 'all sorts of other crimes'? ya'll are so fucking out to lunch here-- let me guess the sum years of residence everyone posting here has, & where you're from? of course, some of my west indian brothers & sista's can disagree but this is BROOKLYN goddamnit & if you want it to all neat & pretty like the suburbs-- where nice rich white people fuck, buy drugs & do lots of "other crimes" away from the street edge, THEN MOVE. i sure hope a black bar doesn't open next.
from the underground,
hb

You're authentic man of the streets routine is lovely but ask the people on Parkside Court, of all colors and years of residence, how happy they would be with a hooker-hotel-style SRO at the beginning of their block and you will hear a loud and genuine "no thanks" from all involved.

"define'all sorts of other crimes'" : I think there have been five drug related deaths in the few months since I've arrived in PLG. Murder is only one sort of "other crime," but it is a doozy.

HB - you are the one who is out to lunch here. You are nothing but a punk-ass, ignorant low-life who brings the rest of us down. Since when is being black and proud equivalent to endorsing a lifestyle of crime, misogyny, and drug-use/trade? Let me be the first to remind you that you and your "West Indians brothers and sistas" need to remember that you aren't living in the islands anymore. You need to have a little more pride in yourself because your attitude brings us all down. I feel especially sorry for your mother and your sisters!

Not to mention, hb, that posting on a neighborhood blog is hardly an "underground" thing to do. But hey, go back to the shadows.
We do not need a whorehouse here. I'm going to call some elected officials as well.
Or am I too late? I haven't visited ATP in a while. Anything new happening with the building?
