Stay Free! asks, "Is not-so-fresh better?"
Stay Free!, written by PLG locals, explores a common assumption: Are old houses better than new ones? In an age where electronics and what not seem to die inexplicably after a short amount of time, can (or will) the same be said for new construction?
The interview with Robert Zagaroli, associate professor of architectural technology at New York City College of Technology, is full of interesting tidbits, but this is our total fave:
ZAGAROLI: I think, as a trend: stainless steel kitchens. Already we're hearing from consumers who see a 10-year-old renovation and groan, "urgh! I can't clean stainless steel. I don't want that kitchen; it's so 90s!" Stainless steel is the new avocado green. What smarter people are saying now is, "Let me build a neutral kitchen. This way the next person can buy what they want."
Amen.

Not all stainless steel kitchens are recent arrivals. My kitchen dates to the early 1950's and all my cabinets and countertops are stainless!
