Back in the day, we weren't too fair to Meytex Lounge. In fact, we called it kinda scary. Since then, we've eaten at Meytex a couple of times and gotten to know the owner, whose name is Marcy.
We were walking by Meytex the other day and noticed that some of its scary features will soon be history - most noteably, the darkened glass has been removed (mostly). Looks like a new sign is in the works as well.
If you go to Meytex, even just once, try the fried chicken. It's awesome.
We took a stroll by Sushi Tatsu (Flatbush and Hawthorne) to see how things are coming along, and it looks like they're near ready to open.
Very exciting.
However, even more exciting than culinary implications is the question that must be on many minds: is this the tipping point? Will more restaurants make their way in? Will we soon have local thai?
Our guess is yes.
Time will tell.

We writers of ATP feel that we have an obligation to represent our readers... sometimes. That said, we were politely asked if we would publish this open letter to Prospect Park...
"Dear Park,
I was just wondering if you could have that marching band (or whatever it is) that practices on Tuesday and Thursdays nights and Saturday afternoons on the east side of the park to play sometimes by Jennifer Connelly's house on Prospect Park West.
As you know, we really enjoy listening to the same music over and over again on our side of the park, particularly if it is repetitive, loud and disruptive. So... we thought if you could have them practice on the West side of the park sometimes then people like Ms. Connelly and others in Park Slope could also appreciate this music as well. I'm sure that the musicians would enjoy the chance to practice in different places! I notice that they have been located at various spots over the past few years –but strangely they are always on the east side of the park! Never on the west.
As I realize that this is simply an OVERSIGHT ON YOUR PART, I will thank you in advance for bringing attention to this matter."
Just pulled down off the wire: Sushi coming to PLG.
We intercepted some chatter on the Lefferts Yahoo! group positing that Sushi Tatsu, already located on Flatbush Avenue near Carlton, is opening a store on Flatbush in the location of the former China City.
We find this news to be awesome. We're not huge fans of Sushi Tatsu, but it's a certainly doable source for raw fish- and nothing does us finer on a cold winter night than a hot bowl of miso soup followed by some sort of teryaki.
Anyone know the expected grand opening date?
This house is possibly the best deal in Lefferts Manor presently. At $765K, it's either a great buy or comes with some major catches.
Is it haunted?
Anyone have the scoop?
This new business opened up on Lincoln Rd. recently. Good available include national flags, DVDs and tailoring. We're unsure of the establishment's name as there is no sign.
How anyone expects to turn a profit with this sort of business is beyond us.
As an aside, if any readers have ever seen the Showtime hit "Weeds," you'll remember that Mary Louise Parker's character opens a bakery to provide a seemingly legit business to account for her income. She does this because she supports herself and her family by selling pot.
But we digress. Let us know what your experiences are like when you shop at this store.
